While not all the Samsung Galaxy S phones in the U.S. have gotten an update to Android 2.2 Froyo, we're getting closer. The Samsung Galaxy S Samsung Epic 4G received an update last week, and now U.S. Cellular's Samsung Mesmerize is getting all the desired features of Android 2.2 Froyo, which leaves the Samsung Fascinate andContinuum from Verizon out of the update fold.
The Froyo update to Android 2.2 offers the ability to save apps to microSD card, update Google mobile services (Quick Search Box, Latitude, Maps, Navigator & Places), improved browsing with faster download speeds, Samsung Media Hub support to rent/buy movies, mobile hotspots (requires a tethering plan), Adobe Flash 10.1 support, and fully integrated support for Microsoft Exchange.
In order to complete the update for theSamsung Mesmerize,.you have to download Kies Mini. Make sure that your battery is fully charged before you start the update as you can lose some data setting, such as shortcuts, music setting, AllShare, Buddies Now links, encrypted DRM ringtones and Google Talk settings. Be sure to back up your data before starting the update.
Warning, you will not be able to make emergency calls during the update process.
More information is available on how to accomplish the upgrade from US. Cellular.
