The Altis CNG is priced from R11.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) onwards. This version is sold only in Mumbai and Delhi

Wagon R with LPG kit

Maruti’s hot-selling new Wagon R can now be had with an LPG kit. A space-saving LPG cylinder and smartly positioned spare wheel mean there is some space for luggage in the boot. With prices starting at R 3.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Wagon R Duo makes a practical buy.

Hybrid sedan

Arguably the world’s most famous hybrid, the Prius’s electric motor works at crawling speeds and keeps emissions to a minimum. And 136 bhp from its petrol engine means it is not found wanting for power. An ideal green car. Pity it costs an exorbitant R27 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

India’s only electric car

The Mahindra REVA is the sole electric vehicle sold in India. Zero emissions make it the greenest car here. It comes with a lead-acid battery which the company claims gives it a range of 80km per charge. A wall socket is needed to juice up the battery, taking 2.5 hours for an 85% charge with a full charge taking eight hours. Pricing starts at R 2.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It’s worth noting that the new Revas with more powerful batteries are being readied soon.
