HTC Flyer coming to India in May?

Apparently, HTC is showing some huge interest in the Indian market. As most of you might be aware the Taiwanese manufacturer launched its new HTC Incredible S and the HTC Desire S in India sometime around their international launch. Now the manufacturer may do the same for its upcoming Android based tablet device known as the HTC Flyer.

The HTC Flyer which was first announced at the MWC 2011, includes a 7-inch screen along with a capacitive capable stylus. It runs Android Gingerbread, topped with a tablet optimized version of the famous HTC Sense UI and the device is powered by a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor. While it may not by powered by a dual-core processor and it may not have the latest tablet optimized version of Android (which is Honeycomb), this tablet is quite interesting and unique when compared to the offering from HTC’s competitors.

The pricing is not yet confirmed, neither is launch but it is expected to hit the stores sometime in the last week of May. The 32GB, 3G enabled model may be priced around Rs. 35,000. HTC’s new flagship smartphone, the HTC Sensation is also expected in India sometime in the next month.

Sony S1 and S2 dual-screen Honeycomb tablets get official

Sony's hosting a press event in Tokyo today where it just made the first announcement: a pair of Android 3.0 tablets -- yes, the very two Honeycomb slabs we told you about exclusively back in February. The first is the Qriocity-focused 9.4-inch S1 media tablet with both front- and rear-facing cameras and a curved wrap design that resembles a folded magazine. The S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized "Quick and Smooth" touch panel UI with "Swift" web browser. It can also be used as a remote control for Sony gear thanks to integrated infrared.

The second tablet is the dual-screen S2 clamshell with its pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and camera. While it sounds bulky, Kunimasa Suzuki just pulled the hinged tablet from his jacket pocket on stage. Sony takes advantage of the two screens with a custom book-style UI layout for its e-reader app, split keyboard and messaging displays for email, and split display and game controllers for PS One gaming. Both the S1 and S2 are PlayStation Certified, support DLNA, and are WiFi and 3G/4G "compatible" according to Sony. See the Sony tablets codenamed "S1" and "S2" in action after the break on their way to a global release in the fall -- possibly sooner in the US.

P.S. While the company isn't ready to talk prices yet, our sources told us back in February that Sony was considering a $599 MSRP on the S1 while the S2 would likely come in at $699. Still no word on the
Windows 7 slider but with the other two leaks official, it's now only a matter of time.

Chevrolet Volt is the 2011 'World Green Car'

Automobiles with alternate fuel capabilities are slowly nearing the brink of an urban reality, and while saving the environment began as being the focus of developing these ‘green machines’, their sophistication and growing sustainability have made them symbols of hope for a world that is still quite speculative about the future of green car technologies.

Hosted by Bridgestone Corporation and the New York International Auto Show, the World Green Car Award is one of many awards given out at the prestigious World Car Awards now in its seventh successful year of running. A panel of green car experts representing three different continents narrowed the list down to three finalists after short listing 12 of the most promising green cars from all over the world.

Not surprisingly, the multiple award winning Nissan Leaf was among the top three contenders for the green car award along with the BMW 320d EfficientDynamics and the 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery powered Chevrolet VOLT that has been in sale in the United Stated since November last year.

While the first-fully electric mass market car, the Leaf had everything going for it, the BMW 320d also showed a lot of potential, but at the end it was the innovate technology and range extension capability of the Chevrolet VOLT that ultimately proved to be its biggest trump card in securing the 2011 World Green Car award.

The three experts, Phil Berg (representing North America), Dean Slavnich (representing Europe) and Tadashi Tateuchi (representing Asia) who unanimously took the decision of picking the VOLT as the winner of this globally recognized ‘Green Car Award’ felt that GM developed the VOLT from a concept in a remarkably short period of time. This along with the fact that the hybrid series range extended electric vehicle was capable of running for miles and miles after its battery was depleted giving out emissions of just 52g/km made it a truly remarkable vehicle with the potential to transform transportation around the globe.

The Chevrolet VOLT will now join a special league of green cars, the likes of the Volkswagen BlueMotion the Honda FCX Clarity and the Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec, all of which are previous winners of the coveted title.

This year the exclusive luxury marque expects to breach the 100 unit mark as more and more enquiries for the high-end luxury cars come in. The company has received a large number of enquiries from the northern cities of Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Jalandhar.

Skyfire Announces Skyfire Web Browser 4.0 for Android

a couple of mobile web browsers launching last month like the Opera Mini andMozilla’s Firefox for Android. It looks like Skyfire wants to up the ante by launching the fourth iteration of their Skyfire Web Browser. And like every new version of a software or app, the Skyfire Web Browser has some features added.

Primarily, the browser seems to cater users who are constantly stuck to their Facebook or Twitter accounts. There are one touch access buttons for quick access to Twitter, plus there’s also a Facebook Like button added for users’ convenience to like a particular page. Skyfire’s toolbar, the Skybar has been made customizable and is also scrollable.

Other added features include the Google Reader option that aggregates content from various websites that a user has selected. Three new buttons are the Sports, News and Finance buttons that is supposed to give one touch access to the latest events happening around the globe.

There’s not much mentioned about any improvement in the speeds of the browser, but the added features look pretty cool. The browser is free of cost and is available for download at the Android Market.

Motorola DEFY receives Froyo update

Yesterday we had the Samsung Fascinate, completing the lineup of American Galaxy S phones with Froyo. Today we have another phone joining the ranks of Android 2.2 – this time it’s the Motorola DEFY on T-Mobile. The Motorola DEFY is one of the sturdiest and most rugged Android phones around but it has been crippled mainly due to its operating system, Android 2.1. Today it gets a new breath of life. T-Mobile has officially announced that they are pushing out an over the air (OTA) update for the Motorola DEFY that upgrades the phone to Android 2.2.

The update brings the much needed optimizations and speed improvements to the phone, as well as the long awaited Adobe Flash support, and the ability to store apps on the SD card. Some additional features have been added with this update as well – added profiles, dialer search, a task manager, LinkedIn integration, increased security, and an updated Gallery.
The update is pretty big, at 112MB so make sure you’re on WiFi before you start the download or you’ll be eating up a huge chunk of your phone’s data quota. If you haven’t received the notification to download the update, head to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates > and check for updates there. Let us know how it goes for you.

Soon, download high-quality movie in 1 min

The company said it planned to trial speeds of up to 1.5 gigabytes per second - more than 10 times faster than its current fastest service of 100 megabytes per second and 240 times quicker than the UK average.
It would mean that customers could download a high-quality movie or video game in 55 seconds, rather than the three hours and 40 minutes it would take with the current UK average speed of 6.2mb.
Trials of the super-fast Internet connections will begin this month at four companies near Old Street, in London, dubbed the "Silicon Roundabout", but the service will eventually be used in homes as well as offices.
The company said one of the greatest advantages of the 1.5gb service is not the speed, but the increased number of users who will be able to use the network simultaneously without interruption.
"Demand for greater bandwidth is growing rapidly as more devices are able to connect to the Internet and as more people go online simultaneously," the Daily Mail quoted Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, as saying. (ANI)

Report: Apple to begin producing iPhone 5 in July

Apple's next-generation smartphone will have a faster processor but otherwise have a similar appearance to the iPhone 4, according to the report from Hong Kong, which cited three unidentified people familiar with the matter.
The revelation appears to contradict a major supplier in Southeast Asia that said earlier this month it would not begin production on components for the iPhone 5 until sometime in September--apparently upsetting Apple's traditional summer iPhone release schedule. Apple has also reportedly been taking its time finding components suppliers for the iPhone 5.
Signals that Apple might not release a new iPhone during its usual summer time frame cropped up last month, with a Japanese report claiming Apple was mulling materials for the back of the device, possibly replacing the hardened glass with a metal backing. Additionally, Digitimes reported earlier this month that production was still under way for iPhone 4 panels since the phone continues to sell, perhaps signaling that Apple was in no hurry to move production toward a new product.
In addition to the back of the phone, the device's screen has been of particular interest with reports that Apple was planning to expand its size from the longstanding 3.5 inches to a larger 4-inch "edge-to-edge" screen. Apple's new iPhone has also been rumored to include Apple's A5 processor and a much-improved 8-megapixel rear camera.
Apple sold a record number of iPhone 4s in the previous quarter with 16.2 million units. An analyst report from RBC Capital Markets released last week estimated Apple besting that by nearly a million in its most recent quarter.
